The buried networks

Let’s risk doing a little anthropomorphism: The buried networks are on a construction site what arteries, veins and nerves are in the human body: they are invisible, indispensable and fully participate in the exchange of information and the balance of the system.

Calais Port 2015 Design and Construction Joint Venture focused on identifying the needs of all stakeholders in terms of flows on the site;  water, gas, high voltage Electricity1 and low voltage2, wastewater and rainwater sanitation. It has been necessary during the execution studies to integrate all information to size and position all these networks and thus allow teams to start the first large trenches to accommodate the sewer pipes (worth to be noted the strong usefulness of  BIM3 for this essential phase).

The Western platform sanitation networks are already finalized. And since the end of the summer, the major works to create these “arteries”, “veins” and “nerves” of the future port has begun on the main platform.

  • 2. Cable networks carrying information (telephone, internet, video monitoring…)
