Work progress of the main breakwater

At the beginning of December 2017, the breakwater low level
exceeded 2,000 meters long from its starting rooting.

This structure construction to protect the future basin started at the end of April 2016 and the work is going on at an impressive pace. More than 2.3 million tons of rocks from 3 quarries near Boulogne-sur-Mer together with 1.6 million tons brought by sea thus allow reaching this symbolic length and both Eastern and Western inner embankments construction for a total length of 1,700 meters.

More than 6,000 Xblocs® produced on site were put on the structure upper surface to protect it from the North swell : 2,630 units of 4m3 (10 tons), 2,412 units of 6 m3 (15 tons) and more than 1,000 units of 8 m3 (20 tons).

If the main breakwater construction represents more than 60% of its total linear in early December 2017, this is not yet so with the tonnage of quarry materials. The remaining 1,200 meters to be built are the most massive sections of the breakwater designed to resist to the effects of the North and West swells.
