SODRACO, subsidiary of Jan de Nul, member of the construction job venture, started first dredging operations.
The sand is sucked with a dredge under the future breakwater and rejected through a huge floating discharge pipeline made of steel and polypropylene, into the basin formed by the junction of the tempory breakwater and the main breakwater. The waterlogged sand will then dry up over time and the basin will disappear to become one of the platforms of the future port.
